As this piece of ash dried, it opened up — cracks and small voids that would normally send a blank to the offcuts pile. Instead I filled them with black resin, let it cure, and turned the vase from the lot. The resin now runs through the pale, striped grain like seams of jet.
It’s a tall bottle form with a gently flared lip, finished with Odie’s Oil so the ash glows and the resin sits flush and polished. Every seam is exactly where the tree decided to split, which is why there will never be another one like it.
Like all my twig vases it’s a dry vase — perfect for a few dried stems, seed heads or grasses. No water.
